Shapechanger

Shapechanger

Running quickly through the forest I dodge quickly racing through the trees feeling the leaves of the bushes bush against me
Feeling such a sense of freedom as I pant, running with the pack gives me such a wonderful feeling to finally be free

Racing quickly up the hill to the top to find the beauty of the moon far above that is full and bright on this cloudless night
My keen sense of smell telling me of the scents of the forest that surround me as I race up to hill up to the heights

Breaking free of the trees I quickly run to the crest of the hill and raise my head to give vent to my voice into the night
Wondering as my voice echoes back from the valley far below why so many thing that when they hear me they are filled with fright

In the far distance I hear the answer from another that sits up on a hill far away and answers my haunting call
Knowing that we are communicating with the spirits of the world on this night makes me give it my all

Howling into the night my voice fills the emptiness of the night with a sound that has such a haunting lilt
Reaching out with my spirit to the night to join with others who have reached out fills my heart to the hilt

I want to stay but must return because I know that with the dawning light I will have to go back again
But vowing to myself to come back to this mountain top because it gives me such freedom that I must win

Then slowly I make my way down to the forest far below and as I race back quickly to my other place
I begin to feel the change coming over me and know that I am turning back to my human form as I race

Then as I come to my home I find that I am not alone but the my brethren of the pack have come back with me
Looking into their eyes I feel their kinship before they turn away and melt back into the forest knowing that for a while I was free

These teachers the Wolf, the Bear and the Hawk teach us if we will just take the time to listen and learn
Perhaps we have lost so much over the years that we can not hear them and that is why our hearts yearn

So as you walk the forest and hear the sounds of the howl deep within the thickness of the forest glen
Perhaps you are hearing a spirit that has changed to that form because they did not want to be just a Candle in the Wind
